"Everyone can brighten a room. Some when they enter it and others when they leave."

The Scary Entrepreneur

“Doesn’t he know that he is sending this message out after Halloween?”  Yep I sure do. Your mind immediately went to Halloween, didn’t it? As an entrepreneur it is your job, to condition your employees and target market to expect your events and promotions.

When a child mentions something he wants in October or November, the usual response from the parent is “Why don’t you wait until Christmas. It is just around the corner.” A woman comments on a piece of jewelry in January, and it is thought of for Valentine’s Day. A high school senior mentions that they want a new laptop, and it is filed for graduation.

By extension, you can  create your own “seasons”. For example, a local running supply store typically has shoe sales in June and again in the fall. Runners plan on upgrading at that time. A local printer may have a sale on business card printing in January to help you jump start your business. Whatever event or theme you can think of will likely create a boost in business for you.

An added benefit of creating your own ‘seasons’ or events is that your staff has a central rallying point and vision. When there is no theme, people will tend to do the best that they can do with respect to business; but when they are provided a theme or event to rally around, they will excel in their performance.  Perhaps you would want to consider a contest of some type based around your theme as well.

Not every holiday was created by the greeting card industry. You can invent your own!
